DESCRIPTION This program was developed by Arcade Software in the U.K. The program is designed for ages 12 to 16. The program has a tutorial that the student can read and then answer questions If the student gets the right answer they are allowed to play a game. Tests are also included to evaluate the students progress. Arcade English covers the following subjects: 1. Spelling (alphabet, constants, vowels, 'a' sound, 'e' sound, 'i' sound, 'o' sound, 'u' sound, silent letters) 2. Punctuation (full stop, question marks, exclamation marks, commas, speech marks, colons, semi-colons, apostrophe) 3. Prefixes and suffixes (prefixes, suffixes) 4. Parts of speech (introduction, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions, interject ions) 5. Reading/Writing skills (first draft, beginning, paragraphs, ending, re-drafting, proof reading, using a dictionary, using a thesaurus, scanning, skimming, intensive reading, recreational reading) 6. Terms used in English (accent, adjective, adverb, alliteration, assonance autobiography, ballad, conjunction, dialect, figure of speech, media metaphor, narrative, onomatopoeia, paragraph, preposition, pronoun, simile, thesaurus) 7. Letters (introduction, personal letter, formal letter, diary, memo, circular, E-mail) 8. Advertisements (purpose, grab line, language, benefits, selling, sample contact, quality and value, closing the sale, guarantees) 9.
